I’m very happy with Proton.
Same here.
I am, as well.
proton team too
Moved away from Proton since their CEO couldn’t keep his mouth shut.
Migrated to migadu.com, works nicely.
I must’ve missed this, what did he say?
He has on several occasions offered praise to the Trump Republican Party. He quote tweeted a post from Truth Social where Trump announced his nominee for Assistant Attorney General for the Antitrust Division at the Department of Justice:
Great pick by
@realDonaldTrump
. 10 years ago, Republicans were the party of big business and Dems stood for the little guys, but today the tables have completely turned. People forget that the current antitrust actions against Big Tech were started under the first Trump admin. When the response to this tweet was negative, the official Reddit account doubled-down:
Here is our official response, also available on the Mastodon post in the screenshot:
Corporate capture of Dems is real. In 2022, we campaigned extensively in the US for anti-trust legislation.
Two bills were ready, with bipartisan support. Chuck Schumer (who coincidentally has two daughters working as big tech lobbyists) refused to bring the bills for a vote.
At a 2024 event covering antitrust remedies, out of all the invited senators, just a single one showed up - JD Vance.
By working on the front lines of many policy issues, we have seen the shift between Dems and Republicans over the past decade first hand.
Dems had a choice between the progressive wing (Bernie Sanders, etc), versus corporate Dems, but in the end money won and constituents lost.
Until corporate Dems are thrown out, the reality is that Republicans are more likely to tackle Big Tech abuses.
This post was then deleted with Yen claiming it was a “miscommunication” and pledging that Proton would stop offering its political opinions.
It’sucks that he’s cheering trump but the things he says about democrats are entirely plausible… I mean… would anyone be surprised that politicians are corrupt regardless of the party?
He doesn’t say that, he says Trump’s party cares about the little people over big corporations, even when they’re the ones putting people on places of power for huge bribes from their big corporations while deporting the little people.
Basically said that Trump was a nice guy with good politics, and he cheered him up.

I use posteo.de, and are very happy with it.
posteo going well for me too!
I’ve been using mailbox.org since a while. Reliable and 12€ per year, can’t really complain. Easy domain name too
Also a fan of mailbox having switched
The reason I didn’t go with mailbox is that they recycle your email address after 90 days. So if you decide to leave or didn’t pay for 30 days, 3 months lager someone can make a new emailaddress under your old name.
Hm, good point
Mailbox.org for me
I’ve migrated some stuff but lots still to update.
I’m on the lowest tier and only have the 3 aliases, I think it may be worth using multiple aliases from what I keep reading online, so may need to upgrade tier before I migrate more accounts.
I’ve had a proton account since 2016 but be er really used it much. I am now using it as my main account and have mothballed Gmail but will eventually delete Google altogether.
Proton. Because i know how to read, and people had twisted the CEOs words completely beyond what was written. Reading ‘and’ comprehension folks. Try to build both skills.
Anyone who has a different opinion than mine is necessarily an idiot
Happy proton user here too. For 5 years already 😊
He supports nazis. I don’t care why.
That’s not the right mindset, but he really did say positive things that were simply not true about Trump’s party in the wake of current-ish events.
Why is nazis=bad the wrong mindset? Its been good enough for most people for 100 years.
The problem is, the person saying “these guys are nazis” could be simply lying.
A good example is Putin funding nazis everywhere in ex-USSR since around 2005, then managing to get Europeans to think the Ukrainian freedom movement was somehow a nazi movement even though the prevalence of right-wing extremism was growing until 2014 just like in the Russia and started decreasing in 2014, while it kept rising in the Russia and Russia-controlled areas such as Crimea.
If the Russia was to gain control over Ukraine, the prevalence of right wing extremist attacks would start growing again like it did until 2014. And yet, a lot of Europeans, especially in Germany, are opposing Ukraine because of the "these guys are nazis, nazis=bad mindset. Nazis are bad. It’s just important to understand that someone accusing someone of being a nazi doesn’t mean that the someone actually is a nazi.
The mindset has caused large parts of Ukraine to fall under circumstances that cause there to be more fascism. Anti-fascism has ended up promoting fascism in this case.
I have not read about what Proton’s owners have said and will delve into that now. But my experience, having lived in Ukraine in 2015 and 2016 and in Germany between 2008 and 2010 (and still having good friends there), is that many are eager to jump on a bandwagon of lynching an accused nazi, even if the accuser himself is a nazi and the accused is not.
It is ugly seeing precisely those who would be needed for fighting fascism work as errand boys for fascists.
Switched my custom domain to mailbox.org from icloud
Tuta has been great.
Proton choked down my chargeback after they said some unwarranted nice things about US republicans.
I have gone one step further and started a an email provider. Hosted in Frankfurt, backup in Amsterdam.
Custom domain Webmail, IMAP, pop, all with TLS obviously Calendar, tasks, contacts sync all in one, all Foss solutions. Anti spam, anti virus
Haven’t figured out how to sell that yet, or at what price, but I’m working on that. XD

Tuta!
Tuta has been cool. Not sure if I want to commit yet though. Hate that can’t use thunderbird with a free-account but I am considering just getting a paid account.
Third party clients are not supported at all.
Oh shit, I thought it was mentioned that it’s possible with a paid account… God damnit. Didn’t fully read their pricing page since I wasn’t sure if I’ll commit.
Honestly that’s kind of a deal breaker for me when thinking about paying for an email service. I need other, nonpersonal email accounts that are from various providers and I love that I can have them all in thunderbird.
Thankfully I didn’t yet do much with the email and was using it for new registrations.
Mailbox. For the imap support.
Did not need to switch as I’ve been using my own domain names (French registrar with French and/or German hostings) since I created my first website… back when quite a few of you reading this today were not even born yet. No, that does not mean I’m that old. Absolutely not :p
I also have a proton and a tuta account (and @ mailbox.org one), just in case someone prefers a more privacy-friendly email than my non-encrypted domain emails, and since neither tuta or Proton are compatible when exchanging encrypted emails, I have both. That being said, I seldom use them: most people simply don’t care about privacy.
I use(d to use) gmail for all crappy online stuff I don’t care much about losing access to. I will probably end up getting rid of it entirely but, to me at least, even though I know it’s possible to do it without a YT account, that would also mean quit watching YT, which is something I still appreciate doing.
I created my first website… back when quite a few of you reading this today were not even born yet.
Please tell me it had a visitor counter on the front page and blinkies in the footer?
On that note, Neocities is still alive and the websites there remind me of the walkman and pez dispenser I had, love it!

:) (Nodding knowingly, kids have no idea these days)
But no it did not had these, not in the early days at least. Back then, it was already something for young (and ignorant me) me to be able to display text and put an image… thumb-sized, because dial-up Internet was slow and anything but cheap. A little later, I started (over)using gif like many, also learning to create my own (I’d rather not remember any of my ‘creations’ :p). But I never was obsessed with that. The moment I fell in love with my website, wanting to make it even more uniquely mine, is when I first heard about and tried CSS. That came later for me, but I could not tell how much.
It was a clumsy learning process, all done by hand through trial and (soooo many) errors, but that was mind blowing. I madly fell in love with CSS… Flash forward quite a few years later, when they finally managed to make me run away from the complex beast they had turned CSS into, and even steer away from the idea of handwriting my own website like I had been doing for all those years.
On that note, Neocities is still alive and the websites there remind me of the walkman and pez dispenser I had, love it!
Thx for the link!
I remember neocities. A bit like I remember Lycos and even more fondly remember my very first Walkman (Sony’s very first model, my uncle brought me back from Japan back then). I have been using that poor thing for countless years. It was beaten to death, paint was gone in so many spots there was not much left to be read on it but it worked well. I loved it. I often listened to cassettes on that beaten up Walkman while I was trying my hands at writing HTML and CSS up until years later when it died of one last fall on the ground. No matter how silly that is, I was sad losing it. If I remember well, I also managed to get my hand on a compatible DC adapter, so it would eat that much batteries.
Disclaimer: I’m not that old.
edit: typos.
Wonderful memories, thanks for sharing! I had a goofy smile throughout reading that!

I’m nearing my thirties, I’m almost “old” to anyone under 20 and “well, you’re not young” to a good chunk of the population (:
