New research reveals a link between Christian nationalism and negative attitudes towards atheists in the United States. The findings were published in the Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion.
My daughter is a queer atheist Jew. I’m only slightly less fucked than her by being heterosexual. I’m worried about her with the ‘queer’ part first, both of us with the ‘Jew’ part second and both of us plus my wife for the ‘atheist’ part with the third.
There are so many reasons theocrats want my family dead and they make no secret of it.
Damn yeah, that’s a lot. I worry a lot about by queer atheist Jewish friends (and the queer religious Jewish friends too, it’s not like the christofascists will ally with folks just because they attend synagogue regularly).
The thing is I don’t think they’re going to try to round up the atheists, just make public displays of atheism illegal and target a few big name ones. But they’ll harp on atheism.
I see it already in some of the weirdest ways. I’ve had Christians try to act like we’re some buddy buddy group of religious people (I’m pagan) as opposed to the atheists and Satanists. Atheists and Satanists have never persecuted my religion outside of soviet state mandated atheism, and Russia didn’t bother stopping persecuting the pagans when they went christian so I think that’s more on Russia than atheism. Atheists generally want a government where your religion is your problem and you don’t get to force it on people or hurt people with it. That’s exactly what I want. And I know that the fact that I don’t believe in their god will eventually cause problems
Yup. Atheist Jew here too, from a family of atheist Jews, from an extended family of holocaust survivors. The world feels quite hostile towards nearly everything about me. It’s long past time for everyone to stand up, speak out, and vote. Silence can be actively destructive. Those of us who have been through this before unfortunately have a responsibility to denounce hatred wherever and whenever we see it. We’re almost at the point of no return.
Yeah no shit. They aren’t acting on it yet because they’ve got other targets first but atheists are on the list of enemies

Just pull out the good old, “How do you do fellow the Jesus worshippers”
“Are you enjoying a good Christmas this summer? I sure am putting up a bush in commemoration of the Holy Poltergeist. Happy Santa!”
