And if he resigns and wants to run again he’s toast. If his goal is to get reelected he’s much better off statistically to run as the incumbent. So should he resign at this point? absolutely not, the senate has a method on the books to kick him out if they so choose, and his criminal defense lawyers would slap him if he did.
