This American Putin wanna be is going burn it all down isn’t he.
I like Americans (to a point), but FAFO, we burnt the Whitehouse down before.
we burnt the Whitehouse down before.
We need your help.
I think most Americans would actually let us, honestly.
We will try to help, we don’t want to see this for the American people either, it doesn’t do anybody any good, but there really isn’t much we can do, but we will try.
But Americans need to stand up against this, they are destroying your government systems piece by piece.
Two different situations. That was before the us had sunk trillions of dollars into its military.
They sank a lot of money into Vietnam and Afghanistan too.
Still different. They are way more advanced than us. And we have way less grit than either of those groups. The viet were willing to live in spider filled holes in the ground. Afghanistan had been at war for years when the us went in so they were hardened already. I think if the current administration had been in power during either of those wars, both countries would have been crushed. The political winds in the us have shifted towards extremism. Trump could totally throw us in concentration camps right now and genocide the entire country and I’m thinking he would get away with it since there would be no backlash at home. Half the people down there would be able to do the mental backflips to justify it and the other half is broken and weak. I genuinely think that Trump can do whatever he wants at this time and get away with it. He’s already purged enough of the government of people with integrity that by now, he is untouchable. We are in danger beyond belief and nobody really seems to be alarmed enough.
Another difference is Canada has a long undefended border with the US and the citizens for both countries can look and sound the same. That guerrilla war wouldn’t stay in just Canada.
I completely disagree
Trump only won a small portion of the American voting population our problem is people don’t vote, not that most of them support this.
I think if it ever actually came to those lengths Congress wouldn’t support it. Congress decides if we go to war, not Trump.
You speak for only for yourself. You may be soft, but not everyone is the same as you.
Come on man. 99% of us grew up in conditions that are soft and easy. I’ve seen extreme violence on a daily basis, but I can still be certain that whatever violence I’ve encountered would be puppy piss compared to what other people in the world go through. It’s led me to be soft. And unless you live in some enclave of extreme suffering somewhere in canada nobody knows about, you are probably just like me. Probably even softer seeing as you lack the self awareness that would allow you to be honest with yourself about what you are. I dunno, maybe you’re in the military or something?
And into tech companies to track you everywhere you go, that’ll be the real tough part, how do you plan any action. Then the military and the heavily armed police forces know exactly who all was involved.
Palantir was literally started just for this.
We should burn it down again. I want to march on Washington with Canadian flags, and American flags, and signs that say “Save America” if the US police/Military gun us down it might make the Americans wake up and eject their dictator. It’s an existential threat to humanity. We can’t afford to wait.
Oh lovely. More threats of war.
Peter Navarro is a piece of shit
The dude just got out of jail a couple of months ago.
I am confused by this article.
The headline says they want to change the borders, but I didn’t see any details in the article about redrawing the border. They say they’re interested in doing so, but there aren’t any details. They say that Trump wants control of the Keystone XL pipeline, but the details they give simply say that he wants it built. It’s like they shoved all the Canada-US relations stuff into one article, but didn’t bother editing it or making it coherent.
On another note, Trump himself is confused:
"We protect Canada, but it’s not fair. It’s not fair that they’re not paying their way, and if they had to pay their way they couldn’t exist,” he told reporters.
Uh, no, Canada has protected our northern border. If we’d had to protect that on our own, we’d be a much more closed, paranoid and militaristic place. [Isn’t that a scary thought!]
Don’t stress yourself out too much. It’s the Telegraph, whose journalistic standards are on par with the Toronto Sun.
Maybe they plan to redraw it to include some of the states in Canada.
“We protect Canada, but it’s not fair.”
The idea that any military attack on Canada is most likely to come from directly across the southern border is not a new one. It’s one of the main reasons we need an army at all. Many years ago I mentioned this theory to some people in the military and was slightly surprised that they all took it seriously and said yeah, we do have plans for that possibility of course. I don’t know to what extent they were serious about it then or whether they’ve all gone soft and forgotten about it in the decades that have since passed, but unlikely as we thought it that an invasion would come from the USA it’s even more unlikely that it’d come from anywhere else.
We certainly had plans for it when I was an infantry officer in the nineties. I see no reason why those plans would not have been kept current.
Did anyone actually think the plans would be effective or was it more of a plan to go down kicking and screaming?
I was impressed. And I tend to be critical of most plans.
I had heard that there where plans; but I thought they were hypothetical plans drawn up in the early years of Canada, just in case we wanted to burn down the White House again.
Surprise sneak attack from Alaska! It’s over Canada we have the high ground.
You’ll be crossing a lot of very rough terrain before getting to anywhere useful. It’d be like attacking Russia through Siberia.
I was joking. But seriously do you think they would be in canoes and riding moose?
They? This is a Canadian forum
Yeah they It means “the Americans troops” or they made a this forum “the Canadian lemmy users”

The USA has had dreams of this forever.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Plan_Red
Not to fear, we also made similar plans. (Should have done it when we had the chance)
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defence_Scheme_No._1
Defence Scheme No. 1 was a war plan created by Canadian Director of Military Operations and Intelligence Lieutenant Colonel James “Buster” Sutherland Brown, for a Canadian pre-emptive attack against the United States in the (hypothetical) case of a conflict between the United States and the British Empire.
That is literally an act of war if they do that.
MAGAs don’t care. They may actually hate us for our freedoms.
MAGAs can go suck a fuck.
And the political raping continues. They’re turning out to be that really bad neighbor no one wants, on steroids.
Redraw the boarders? Like what they did with golf of Mexico? Because no way Canada will agree on this.
Could you edit your comment to include a homophone in your third sentence? For instance, substitute “no” with “know”, or “way” with “weigh”?
I’ll delete my comment afterwards. It’s just that comedy often comes in threes.
@Shadow Step away from the crayons 🖍
When the war starts in earnest. Most of us are on yalls side.
Start fighting right now.
I don’t believe it’s most. If you add those who support Trump to those who are too indifferent to bother to vote against him, the people who will oppose him are in a minority. And even some of that minority is “don’t rock the boat” Democrats who will go along with the status quo, even as it lurches to the right. Others are scared and won’t do anything to help. Trump’s favorability rating bumps along at around 45-52% these days, and Americans have a strong tendency to rally behind the troops and the President even in needless and cruel wars, and they’re suckers for propaganda. So I don’t believe a majority are on Canada’s side in any meaningful way. Americans will fall in line, and Canada has to defend itself against this aggression.
I wouldn’t count on it. Americans want to seem strong but are really just weak babies. Most well just go along well saying I need my guns for government overreach well just allowing it to happen.
It will be redrawn in canada’s favour.
Agh. Paywall.
It was fine for me… Either way, this should work for you
It’s an odd thought that there must be people out there who consider the Telegraph worth paying for. Crazy world.
