Well, in their eyes, it seems vital to be sending me adverts as notifications, I guess it’s probably also vital that those adverts have a browser to link through
The lesson they learned in the 90s is that you can drag a trial out long enough to get a favorable administration in office to give you a slap on the wrist.
If you could uninstall edge one could end up in a situation where there are zero browsers installed, which is extremely user unfriendly. Unlike Linux, Windows tries to accommodate any kind of user.
With enough know-how you can absolutely remove edge. They just don’t make it easy. Which is a good thing.
Meh, weak argument in my opinion. If one happens to run into the problem of having no browser, there are other ways around it. E.g., using your smartphone to download the installer of a browser and transfer it to the PC. People, who run into situations where they could end up with no browser are usually those who are overwhelmed with the internet anyways.
That they don’t make it easy to uninstall edge, while it’s easy to fuck up your system in other ways, clearly shows that it’s not about helping DAUs, but about forcing edge onto users.
Wait… Microsoft is still pretending that having their web browser installed is vital to the continued operation of their OS?
Mac does the same. You can’t remove Safari and you can’t
sudo chmod 0 /Applications/Safari.app
Ask me how I know 😒
how do you know?
HE ASKED ONE THING OF YOU
And he delivered.
No, we spoke about this, never answer the request
I read it on wikihow

Did we not teach them a lesson about this in the 90s?

Isn’t it required for all networked services they provide via windows (for example windows update, network connectivity checks, etc)
If you buy that.
Tbh I have no idea, it was just an educated guess
Some old applications depend on IE, but not Edge
Browsers use network functions. Any program can use network functions, no need for a browser.
Can you install applications in any other way on windows?
Yes, Windows has an app store, and a CLI package manager called Winget now.
But the Windows app store is garbage and Windows users are pathologically afraid of the terminal so…effectively no.
I tried giving Winget a try but it kind of sucks.
You can just run the portable version without installing.
Yes, you can install Chocolatey without using a browser.

If there was a simple checkbox to uninstall Edge… checking it back on would just install it. That’s how the rest of Windows system features work.
And how it tries to accomodate user that does not want any browser?
By letting them use the OS without ever having to see any browser at all
I.e. without browser installed? It contradicts your previous statement.
No, by not using it.
Will Microsoft send spare disk for all the bloat user don’t want, but can’t delete?
Nah.
