Isn’t shaving one’s head an “empty performative stunt”? It doesn’t provide any benefit to the cancer patient.

I don’t think so if you’re fond of your hair. Even if it grows back, it’s a symbolic sacrifice in solidarity–a nice firm hug. A bald cap feels like a limp hug or a pat on the head.

Not that anyone should feel obligated to shave their head, but one major thing is that his hair is literally his livelihood. He may be under contract not to change his appearance, and shaving one’s head (especially at that age) might do permanent damage.

I doubt that Dave would want John to shave his head. But they’re good friends, and our opinion from the sidelines doesn’t really matter that much.

Good points, and yeah, our opinions are irrelevant. And to be honest, I’m not interested in their lives and I don’t even know who either of them are. lol

Although I looked up shaving causing permanent hair damage and found nothing, I think it’s a myth since shaving is done above the hair follicles. If it’s not, then it’d be damn interesting to know why!
