To be fair, they almost definitely smoked like chimneys and wore extremely toxic makeup, as one did in the 30s and 40s
There’s one woman whose extended social circle sometimes mixes with mine and she’s apparently only 35 but looks to be 50 due to excessive smoking and drinking. She always stands out due to her elaborately and tastefully dyed hair so I’ve started conversations with her a few times purely about her hair
