Also, if Trump ends up in jail, it’s pretty reasonable to assume that all of his support will go to DeSantis by default, and then he would be the nominee. There’s still a chance that DeSantis ends up as his running mate, and then they both collectively gut any remaining institutions of democracy in the US.
I don’t see how that’s possible. There’s no law on the books that says a person in prison can’t be elected President, and you can bet Trump fans will jump all over it.
