Congrats to the new admins!

As regards instant recall, I’m new here (but not new to lemmy and the broader fediverse) and don’t feel I have much of a voice regarding how things are run. I also don’t have much experience with the concepts of anarchism and the idea of instant recall is new to me, but I do have a lot of experience in governance for large organisations.

That said, I have some concerns.

Primarily, I can’t see how including yourself can work in practice. Even if 70% of voters decide that your actions are contrary to the desires of the instance, you will be confident that your own actions are necessary and justified (otherwise you wouldn’t have taken those actions). You’ve already acknowledged that you’re a foul play failsafe. So I guess I’m saying, from your perspective any motion to recall your mandate is very likely to appear to be foul play.

Sadly, I’m conditioned to suggest having a robust code of conduct and a committee to refer breaches to, but I suspect that is not the way of anarchism.

Regardless, I’m very happy to support this instance and look forward to seeing where you take it.

There’s a number of problems with this.

It would only work if enough communities and instances adhered rigidly to similar editorial decisions about what is “political”. I don’t think that’s achievable.

Mods would have to do the heavy lifting in tagging/ untangling things.

It’s not going to be as simple to implement as you think.

Posts are already categorised by community. You can block the vast majority of political posts by blocking a few communities and users.

At times if filtered out keywords like Musk and Trump. You don’t really need to implement a feature for this. Just get posters to include a tag in the title of their post.

Looking at your other comments, you’re not going to be deterred by these criticisms, so my suggestion would be to find the git repo and create an issue to get some proper feedback from other contributors.

I think most places keep a brush in the toilet in a fancy caddy. That’s because the expectation is that everyone scrubs any skid marks before leaving.

I suspect that the plunger is to do with standard sewage pipe guage rather than just “shoddy” workmanship or whatever. That’s why bidet spray is more or less mandatory in South East Asia, the sewage pipes just aren’t wide enough to handle toilet paper.

Water bottles for bikes suffer from this.

You gotta get them really dried out really regularly.

Like if you only have one that you use every day it’s just going to get gross no matter what.

It needs to be bone dry for a few days to kill everything.

If you have 2 and switch once a week, the one that’s out of rotation will dry out and any funk will just die off.

I agree with you, but I’m not sure how great it would actually be.

As in, capitalists all compete in a free market to produce the best chair for the lowest price. Communism is more efficient because we just direct a factory to make 2 types of chair, standard and deluxe.

It’s just bonkers how many people vote against their own interests in that regard. My parents are rusted on liberal voters but they collect an age pension from centrelink.

Some headlines around the corrupt punishment of poor people last time we had an LNP government sprinkled through the coming months won’t hurt. I mean they probably won’t help either I guess.

I have relatives living in the US who are Trump supporters.

I would struggle to talk to them about anything even unpolitical now.

Yeah so I have a son and daughter who are too young to encounter this stuff but I’m definitely concerned about it. I don’t have any experience at all in navigating this type of dynamic.

I suspect that in the coming years I’m going to realise just how difficult it is to maintain a relationship with your kids where you have some level of influence while simultaneously earning some level of respect, camaraderie, kinship, and ultimately have them share things with you. It kinda sounds impossible honestly.

I know that the fitness angle is also a recruitment tool used by these organisations. You know, come to the gym, learn to work out, learn kickboxing or whatever, acquire role models, be influenced.

I guess one strategy is to encourage relationships with better role models so they have a point of reference when they encounter someone with ulterior motives and differing views.

First I’ve heard of the March 7-14 Amazon Boycott.

IMO the other three events are very unlikely to be effective in any way.

The boycott is at least achievable, and depending on the numbers you can enlist it may have a detectable impact on Amazon.

I can’t really remember the details but Skeptics Guide to the Universe was talking about this a few weeks ago.

As we learn more or better resolve the object’s trajectory the probability of collision was expected to increase mildly before dropping to zero.

No it’s not. A general rabble isn’t going to achieve anything because they’re not asking for anything. Morale is low and participants are easily disuaded because they can see they’re not achieving anything. No one wants to risk physical harm or incarceration for a cause that just doesn’t really exist.

The general consensus seems to be that doing something is better than doing nothing.

I really disagree though. After a few failed attempts people will lose heart and get in line.

There seems to be half a dozen different protests now too, all on different days with no cohesive objectives

If this thread is like the others, there are no demands but a strong intention to express general discontent.

Presidents remain president while enough people recognise their presidency.

Unfortunately just a few months ago a majority of voters elected him with a mandate to do exactly what he’s doing.
