Very cool article! (Har) Tx for posting.
Little bit of a goofy mistake in it about a supposed 1939 St. Louis World Fair. NYC was 1939. St. Louis was 1904.

I don’t recall any lasting sleep benefits, but you’re absolutely right that there ain’t NOTHIN like a Propofol nap. Amazing. And when I woke up, completely, instantly awake, no grogginess or hangover effect.
No wonder MJ was addicted.

“Nothing.” You know: memes, scrolling, YouTube. I mean if you’ve tried all three, what else in the world can a person do?

It’s kind of interesting to consider how all of the so-called dirty words got their start. Historically, a swear or an oath is a promise before God that your words are true and you’ll do what you say. If a person swore with an oath and then broke their promise, they were considered to be profane (treating something sacred with irreverence or disrespect) or to have uttered profanity. So in that sense, the words oath, swear, and profanity are all connected in that they all have to do with invoking the name of God or Jesus Christ.
Historically, the word “vulgar” merely refers to that which is common. For instance, Vulgar Latin was the everyday speech of the Roman people. Nothing dirty or low about that. Now however, the term “vulgar” has come to mean “coarse or crude.” All of the dirty words that deal with “coarse or crude” aspects of our humanity (words for bodily functions, organs and acts, for instance) would be considered vulgarities.
So technically in this meme Kirk is requesting a swear, and Mr. Spock responds with a vulgarity, a mistake he most certainly would never make because that would be fucking illogical.

LeVar Burton has striking eyes to begin with. When a person is used to seeing him as Geordi with his visor on, seeing him with it off is like he has 100 watt bulbs screwed into his head.
“When we get to the point where the teachings of Jesus himself are seen as subversive to us, then we’re in a crisis.”
Half this story is about the idiot SBC constituency. The other half is about top SBC officials who have somehow come to believe that the teachings of Jesus were anything but subversive to begin with.
Yep, same here.
“Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.” —Benjamin Franklin
“Earlier today, we spoke with representatives from Twitter and they will send a letter to us to say that X.com will be used by Twitter…”
Ah, yes. A letter, the choice of grandparents and luddites worldwide.
If it’s a low rate, I’d be fine with that.
Billshark: never heard of this! I signed up. THANKS
Does anyone know: can you buy Humble Bundle games and play them through Steam?
These posts about Reddit’s continuing slide are like the news my elderly mother gives when yet another one of her friends dies: sad, but what you gonna do?
Those baggy knees lol.
Sarcasm can be difficult to catch in online conversations. Yours, however, came through like hot sauce on chicken wings.
