  • I don’t even get the main character complaints… She’s got a cute coffee shop barista vibe to her lmao people are just weird about women being “beautiful” in such stereotypical ways I guess. Must be exhausting and extremely lonely to have such trivial “standards” for a damn video game character.

  • The game has settings for tweaking aim assist and such. It is exceptionally well done. As OP said they ask you if you’re playing on a Deck when you boot up, and it even has a Deck specific options menu for tweaking aim assist and what not. I played the first level on my Deck last night on regular difficulty and had a blast. Then I switched over to my PC and upped the difficulty and also had a helluva time there. It’s a phenomenal shooter.

  • Are you referring to the style of shooter this is trying to emulate, or just the general quality of the game itself? Cause there are tons of “boomer shooters” on Steam that are incredibly good despite the “dated” engines they often use. The game before this, Ion Fury is using the Build engine, and looks insanely good considering how much they’re pushing the engine. Not sure about this new one though.

IDK, I love my Red Dead Redemption 2 and Alan Wake 2 graphics, but gameplay comes first still for me, and “boomer shooters” are pure classic fun, especially if they have excellent level design. This looks to be in the same vein.

Edit: actually I remember the demo for this one being pretty heavily criticized for not being up to polish compared to Ion Fury and other recent “boomer shooters.” So you may be onto something. Release date might be too soon with this one. Ion was made by a different team, Phantom is made by Slipgate which has a pretty meh reputation amongst New Blood fans. Color me skeptical now as well. I thought this was being done by Voidpoint.

  • It’s excellent, and I mainly play with randoms. The toxicity not so bad if you accept the BS that comes with random partners. Personally I have only dealt with some shithead teens and one guy who got mad I kept healing him. You get quitters quite a bit like in any PVP game, but it fills quickly. I have voice chat disabled 90% of the time, since pinging is in the game. The destruction is peak physics destruction in a multiplayer game, some of my favorite moments in any game have come from the pure chaos of things falling apart in the Finals. They also added a new 5v5 mode that feels way less frustrating and more casual (to me at least).

I imagine it’s even better if you’ve got a trio of well coordinated players, I’ve certainly played against some nasty trios in my 80 hours. Personally I think this is the most unique PVP shooter out right now, and it’s extremely polished for F2P.

My favorite publishing house is probably Bethesda. I came to this realization the other day when thinking of what my favorite types of games are. Just so happens Bethesda has published nearly all of them in recent years. Arkane is my favorite dev because they’ve kept immersive sims alive with titles like Dishonored 1+2/Prey/Deathloop. ID software/Machine Games both keep the tradition of the classic shooter alive while bringing them into the modern era, games like Wolfenstein (The Old Blood, 1+2), and DOOM. The only games I don’t really care for out of Bethesda are their recent RPG games, I believe they’ve peaked at Fallout New Vegas. But with the upcoming Indiana Jones game being developed by MachineGames, I think they’ll deliver another fun first person adventure. They also quietly released HiFi Rush last year from Tango Gameworks (who also did the awesome Evil Within 2 game) and that oozed PS2 era video games quite amazingly.

The most recent developer who has crept onto that list in recent years for me is definitely FROMSOFTWARE. No need to really explain here, they’ve made a handful of classic dungeon delving masterpieces with the Souls series. Then went onto Bloodborne and Sekiro, most recently Elden Ring (which was the first full game I ever beat from them).

I’ll also echo Remedy, and do an honorable mention to 4A Games (highly recommend the Metro series for those into First Person Shooters, some amazing atmosphere in those games still). Double Fine too, with the recent Psychonauts 2, they aren’t super prolific in recent years but that game was amazing. I think the industry needs more creativity like Psychonauts 2 offered and what the studio offers in general. Capcom in recent years has been on fire too the upcoming Dragons Dogma 2 looks like it could become a classic if it’s as good as all these previews make it seem to be.

  • So stoked for this, I poured 80 hours into the first season. My playtime wound down towards the end of the season, so I hope they’re not discouraged by the lower player count and this new season brings back folks like me who like to bounce between different games. I just cannot main one game anymore. But The Finals has been the most refreshing PVP game in years, since Titanfall 2 imo. I hope it has staying power, and we see more seasons cause Season 2 is looking delicious!

Yeah I honestly expected more nuanced takes from decentralized Reddit but I guess I expected too much. Nobody has provided any examples of his “bad takes” except that he makes money off his work, as he fucking should. So I’ll just move on with my day. Been watching the guy on and off for years, haven’t donated to him once so not sure where I’m being grifted lmao.

Also is this place being brigaded by incels/right wingers? Some of the comments on this post are concerning.

Edit: nice username and profile pic, I’m a big fan of King Gizzard myself, Infest The Rat’s Nest gets a spin weekly!!!

  • People said the same shit during Pizzagate. And look what happened there. There isn’t smoke here, it’s made up outrage, which is more akin to folks kicking up dust. In this case I think they’ve huffed too much of their own fart dust.

People have poor mental health, no control of their lives, no control over the industry through their consumerism like they pretend (the average person buying Spiderman 2 doesn’t give a shit about this controversy), and so they are looking to shit on a consultancy company to make themselves feel like they have any power. The reality is most people just care whether a game is good or not, not whether it has DEI elements included or whatever else.
