It is painfully obvious that our close economic relationship with the US is a blessing and a curse. There has always been a need for us to diversify our TRADE and yet every level of government has not tried hard enough to do just that. We need to strengthen economic ties with South America and Europe. Example: why aren’t we jumping to build LNG terminals in Eastern Canada so we can ship our gas to Europe? Import more vegetables from Mexico and central america. We have a direct rail link for cheap transport!

I agree. It’s a gimmick. That didn’t stop Doug Ford. He’s doing it again. Nobody’s complaining. I won’t. I won’t complain against re-distribution of money to average joe no matter what form it takes.

The cheques are gimmicky yes, but they are communicative and have also been effective. Ontario’s conservatives did this to get re-elected, and they’re doing it again. It is also a direct re-distribution of wealth to the 99%, the same way our governments have been giving handouts to the corps and wealth. There are a lot of things I fault Trudeau for but not this one.

This is about as stupid as it gets. The move had nothing to do with gender. It’s a struggling PM trying to bring fresh faces into his cabinet in a desperate attempt to revive his flailing fortunes. Freeland’s tenure as deputy PM and finance minister has been unremarkable, and at best have kept the status quo going that caters to the corporations and the rich. Only thing of note during her time was her stance on Ukraine. Perhaps she should’ve been foreign minister.

I’m left of centre, but there is nothing that’s going to prevent this hell from happening. We are doomed. It’s the same predictable cycle we’ve seen in Canada over and over. Let’s hope PP is in power for only one term and not hang on like freakin evil Harper.

While it’s a nice thought to prevent victims of political malice, this is a dangerous precedent, creating possibility of immunity for political bad actors by Trump in the future.
