I feel like someone needs to point out that this saying is often conflated with the idea of 15 minute cities.

The idea of 15 minute cities is that people want their amenities within 15 minutes so they don’t have to drive.

It is not an idea to keep you confined and take away your ownership of things.

Also, you don’t really need a whole day. I’m also Canadian. Employers are required to allow you time to do it, not an entire day.

I would phrase the question like this: “I need to take time to go vote. Would you prefer I take the morning or afternoon off?”

If they so no to both, you say “you know it’s illegal not to allow me time off to vote, right?”

I’ve changed careers since the last election, but as a driver I’d just say “I’m going to swing by the polling place in my way to or back from wherever” and it was never a problem.

Not really an answer to your question, but if you live somewhere that freezes think about where your pipes are.

You gotta heat the bathroom and kitchen and any other rooms that may have pipes running through them, or you’re going to freeze and probably burst some pipes.

Or, you could leave your taps trickling, but that expensive too.

I would argue that getting all twisted up about something so inconsequential is stupid and petty.
