Oof, that overlap will only grow as the tech inevitably improves.

That’s a solid argument toward using an AVP vs a traditional PCVR set up.
… So why not just do that for a fraction of the price on the Quest 3? I do everything you listed on mine, I even take it with me when I travel without any perceived constraints. I, too, can use Steam Link (although I prefer Virtual Remote Desktop currently) and even found myself making some use of the new Xbox GamePass app, and yes, it also pairs with my controller, and my Logitech keyboard and mouse too.
I understand the AVP can fill a wider role than a standard PCVR gaming rig set up, but I feel what you describe as something to compare with the AVP is honestly kind of outdated.
I won’t give a specific solution.
What works for you ultimately depends on you; be it intermittent fasting, OMAD, cutting sugar and/or salt, simply eating less, working out, a combination of the previously mentioned, etc. but what I feel allowed me to actually lose weight (~50 pounds so far) was accepting that – whatever you end up doing – it’s not temporary. It’s a lifestyle change. You’re just going to regain that weight if you return to the habits that brought you there in the first place.
Mentally, I also approached it as “one step at a time”. Weight fluctuates for all sorts of reasons be it water intake, you just ate, etc. I didn’t get discouraged as I saw the number go up and down a few pounds here and there, but continued to view every few pounds as a milestone worth celebrating (not with a cheat day, mind you). The general trend kept going down, I was getting and remaining healthy, and that’s all I really cared about.
Additional anecdote from me, but I specifically seek out good sound pass-thru over good noise cancelling because I use music to help focus but need to hear at the same time like, say, at work when a call comes in.
I don’t need it to be particularly loud, either, as I also have audio processing disorder so some concerns I see in this thread such as (paraphrasing) “probably poor bass” isn’t as much of a concern.
I currently use Sony’s Latest LinkBud S earbuds, and I’m pretty happy with it. But if I were still looking for a pair, something like what’s being offered here is exactly the sort of thing that would appeal to me.
These will undoubtedly appeal to a niche audience vs mass appeal, but so long as production doesn’t outpace demand I could see such a line of ear buds becoming quite popular among those who want that feature specifically.
(Edit: oops, my instance got all weird and posted 4 times. Fixed.)
Ah, this just gave me a fun wallpaper idea and reminded me that my emulator exists. Thanks 👍
Tbh that’s probably good enough for a deployable self defense solution.
Holy shit are you me?
Yeah, I see what you’re saying. “Be the change you wanna see” and what not. I’m doing my part by liking and
Appears to me that, when they had the toilet sitting in the now-carpeted room as contractors worked on the flooring in the bathroom, a contractor tasked with applying carpet to the room the toilet was temporarily being stored in had a typical “not my job” moment and laid down the carpet everywhere except where the toilet was temporarily being placed.
You can even see the garish cut the contractor made on the right hand side of the hole so he could get the carpet to lay into the corner, behind the toilet, instead of simply moving it.
It was fun. Well, fun enough for at least a couple weeks. Soon as my co-op partner dropped it, so did I.

If you think Threads is better cuz of federation then you’d love Mastodon. It’s basically federated Twitter with double the word limit and more QoL features than Threads.
But yeah, Threads started as a seized opportunity after the whole X thing happened and people were looking to migrate off the platform. Meta basically tried to offer its own Twitter to syphon users into its own ecosystem.
I’m going to assume they are referring to Meta (FaceBook)'s Threads program that has recently been slated for fediverse integration. https://fortune.com/2023/07/06/mark-zuckerberg-replacing-metaverse-with-twitter-killer-threads-fediverse/
My 2¢ is that, while I don’t care for the mega corpos tainting my beloved fediverse, I very much see this move as an example of how companies must “adapt or die” in action. Given Meta’s track record with trying to get a foot in the door of the next big thing, I’m dubious toward their success but wish them well, as more decentralization is always welcome. Threads may fail but its users may find they like this whole “federated instances” thing, speeding up adoption.
That all said, Threads (and Instagram) are slated to be on boarded into the same ActivityPub protocol that Lemmy, Kbin, and Mastodon all use and share. So, end of the day, by default we WILL be interacting with Threads users the same way we on Lemmy currently interact with Kbin or Mastodon users.
The same freedoms and limitations of federation are and will be available to use as before. At least in the short term future.
Hasn’t Bill made claims on previous PPshows that he’s acquainted with Ryan? Why would he ask Larry how Ryan is, interpersonally?
Right? I’m gunna miss it a lil. YouTube was pretty much the last monthly service I was paying for purely because I was grandfathered in at such a price.
Oh well. Snip snip
Solid write up, Chives.
76mil… original float size at time of Jan 2021 sneeze.
I’ve picked up on this, too, and also wonder if there’s any significance toward it.
I imagine it’d be handled kind of like how McDonald’s “1,2,3 Dollar menu” doesn’t have a single item under 2 dollars in my area.
