I just checked GitHub and it looks like the last branch update was 3 months ago, is the Dev MIA or is this a planned break?
They just had twins not too long ago.
It’s hard to keep doing two full-time jobs and additional one that no one pays you for.
The dev said they are going to take a break. They didn’t say they want to stop completely.
People forget projects like this are done for fun. They put a lot of polish and organize it well enough that it looks professional, but just like this, it can be a single dev working on it on their free time. its super easy to create a project, get busy, and just fall off. They’re allowed to do that, plus while there’s always more stuff to do, even the existence of this app is already impressive, so I thank them for the work, and until I decide to start coding during my free time instead of playing video games or watching TV, I try not to be disappointed when a project slows or even dies.
I hope the original dev is doing good, I thank them for their work, and congratulations on the twins, hope everything is going well for them, and hope they only come back when they feel ready, not when they feel forced to
It’s not a single Dev though? Check GitHub.
Three months? Call back in 9 more months, then we can start to worry.
Actually it’s not compatible with the new authentication method in Lemmy 0.19 so as soon as that rolls out to your instance you’ll not be able to log in and there will be missing posts and problems with the list of communities.
Some instances have already upgraded.
Do you know of any good and active foss alternatives? I just good used to liftoff :(
Eternity is a really good one, it’s a port of Infinity for reddit, and I love it. You can find it in Fdroid and I think the playstore too. So far it’s the best lemmy app (besides liftoff) IMHO, and I tried them all.
Voyager is the king of Lemmy apps at the moment, is being actively developed. Mlem is also being developed.
