It’s called r/poldersocialisme and I feel like even the slightest anti-imperialism or ML thought gets scrutinized there. Today with the war in Palestine, every single pro Palestine comment or post got downvoted. This wouldn’t have happened a year ago I feel like. Slowly the subreddit got run over by more social democrats and even right wingers. The mods don’t do anything to stop it. They are actually making it worse. I once got a tempban for ‘denying the Uyghur genocide’. They have a flair for right wingers as well, like theyre inviting them. What’s the point of a Dutch socialist subreddit when the viewpoints are the exact same as the ones that are already established throughout the whole Dutch media landscape?
Sorry for my niche rant, but as a Dutch ML I feel more alone in my viewpoints every day, and I’m losing hope in the Dutch left but hope I can do something to revitalize it.
This is not just a Dutch problem, it replicates itself across almost the entirety of Europe. The imperial core’s left has a massive social chauvinism problem, and where there is chauvinism there is a rife breeding ground for right wing thought. It is also extremely infiltrated by cointelpro agents and by liberals calling themselves social democrats.
I assume a lot of actual leftists left Reddit in the mass exodus this year like I did, which would leave the entire site more rightist.
Reddit is a cia mouthpiece when active. With the Ukraine war, every single sentiment suddenly turned pro-Ukraine and anti-Russian.
You are not alone. I used to frequent the subreddit as well, and everything about China for example was removed or heavily censored against. It is most definitely a more demsoc or socdem community now, with some very reactionary views when it comes to AES and international solidarity.
I noticed more backlash and bolder stances from a handful of other regular ML’s, but it seems like it won’t matter much as we are a minority among the usual western ultra’s and socdems.
All in all you’re not alone, and I hope this message is at least some comfort. Things are tough, but don’t despair.
I left for good some weeks ago because I figured it was useless being there. GL/PvdA gets the Democrat treatment of TACTICAL VOTING and I went to take a quick look about Palestine yesterday and it’s all: Hamas bad Slava Israel stuff.
Let them fuck themselves I’d say. Vote for your pathetic Green/Labour fusion who is already bailing out in thing like raising the minimum wage BEFORE elections. Just give money to NATO and hope that you will get a small crumb that falls of the capitalist plate. That’s being Dutch ‘left’ at the moment. Glad I left that country.
Every big tent not controlled by ML will sooner or later devolve into succdem centrism, then purge communists.
