• There’s really only two types of people who get mad at mods:

    • The people who break the rules then get mad that they suffered the consequences

    • The people who see mods using the position just to have the smallest modicum of power over others and just reflexively swing the ban hammer without looking at context, seeing if there is a pattern, giving warnings, or anything else. They just remove and block what they, personally, do not like.

There’s a boatload of both here, just as there was on Reddit. The differences are that it’s smaller here, so you actually see the people complaining about the mods and the modlog is public so you can always see if the mod’s actions were reasonable.

Maybe you wouldn’t see so much hostility if you weren’t going around harassing people for owning horses. You get what you give.

I don’t see much but I also don’t frequent the main news and politics forums, and avoid getting involved in arguments about the best Linux distro is (when we all know it’s… nah not going there).

We all know the best one is the one you compile straight from the source and build it from scratch. Filthy casuals.

Hey Emperor, I’m happy to hear your experiences have been better :)

Yes, those two topics often turn out feisty in the comments. Thats why I’m excited for Mlem’s 2.0 release where we can toggle on/off filter word lists. Sometimes I just want to chill and enjoy the positives with my fellow lemmings.

I know that feeling! When I say I like Linux and use a particular distro someone is often attempting to convince me to switch to another one hehe. But I’m like “I like my current configuration and migrating again is a lot of work”.

On voyager you can block communities and filter keywords from post titles (not sure if it’s a voyager setting or a lemmy one though). My first two words are “Trump” and “Elon”, it has significantly improved my viewing experience as well as some other political words.

While I think Lemmy is great, I feel like there’s way more nitpicking about things and that I have felt more targeted here sometimes for differing in opinion on topics. On Reddit I don’t often run into the same person twice after having a disagreement unless it’s a subreddit I regularly visit. I just hope we could have more positive interactions in the future. !taneggs@lemmy.ca is great for that.

I’m really excited for more mature moderation tools to facilitate a kinder atmosphere in the future.

NGL, I feel like there’s a higher concentration of people on the spectrum on here that might contribute to this.

      Game knows game.

I think it just results in more bans and blocking, instead of feeling picked on you’ll just be banned, at least on far left instances/areas.

I got banned on Mastodon for ‘climate change denialism’ which I thought was hilarious considering I have likely spent more money and more of my time to be climate positive than the person who banned me and the people outraged by what I said combined

But they wanted to be hyped up by a garbage doomer article and by me arguing that the article was doomer bs and bad maths triggered them

As long as you never say anything even remotely political or controversial, you are fine.

But that comes at a cost of self expression. Conform or be cast out (blocked).
