This is based on a creative translation of the following sentence. It goes by pretty fast, so it’s easy to just notice that it has “preemptive strikes” in it. Does it even make any sense as a thought in English?

We need to launch preemptive strikes so that they know what will happen to them if they use it, and not vice versa.

NATO needs to nuke Russia so Russia will know what happens if Russia uses nukes? That’s not even a coherent thought for someone who clearly has a decent grasp of international politics to express. So that leaves the other possibility, that the translator is deliberately fucking with the translation. Which is, of course, exactly what happened.

If that is a creative translation then offer a better one. That newsweek article is pure cope in way too many words, and they don’t even do it, they just scream “nuance” and “context” all the time. I guess it’s hard thing to do when he was absolutely straight.

He just fucked up and instead of admitting he been blabbering when high and apologizing now entire collective liberalism is trying to make an excuse.
