Just today these are some communities created on this instance:
https://sh.itjust.works/c/tutoiementunboaste https://sh.itjust.works/c/unrenewablesubpana https://sh.itjust.works/c/vegetarianprogramm https://sh.itjust.works/c/myelopetalplainnes https://sh.itjust.works/c/waylaidmegasses https://sh.itjust.works/c/expiateshottie https://sh.itjust.works/c/knackwurstsreearn https://sh.itjust.works/c/sculptedsixteenpen https://sh.itjust.works/c/anelesunimitablene https://sh.itjust.works/c/ebonistregenerativ https://sh.itjust.works/c/extensionlessvulca
Is there any way to report this spamming? In particular is there any way to report this spamming that doesn’t require creating a separate account on a separate system?
Hey all,
I’ve been busy coding some counter measures for the attacks on this instance today. Most of the stuff has since been cleaned up. Have temporarily disabled community creation until we get some extra security implemented. The communities that you see above should all have been purged at this point. Thank you
The majority of these communities were cleaned up by @TheDude@sh.itjust.works tonight but if you spot any more you can DM him or also raise the issue on the Matrix chat that we have here.
We’re also working on implementing rate-limiting on our instance so these changes should make sh.itjust.works much less attractive to spammers.
The admin is working on it
Good question.
You can’t “report it” from Lemmy because there’s not even a post there to report.
You can probably DM @TheDude@sh.itjust.works directly within Lemmy. My guess is at some point, we’ll probably have to decide whether to require approval for creating a community instead of allowing everything and purging the garbage. Idk.
A rate limit per day might knock down the spam without needing pre-approval.
It’s come to my attention that some lemmings feel the need to create and test multiple communities to determine which ones succeed - no response when I pointed out they could do so on an instance they created
Yeah came here to post about it. What’s even the point of creating these spam communities?
