“We have issued the last package that we had withdrawn and for which we had funding,” John Kirby said. White House National Security Council strategic communications coordinator John Kirby said at a briefing Thursday that “the assistance we were providing has come to a halt.”

The White House official also said it is very important that Congress continues to approve the allocation of money to Ukraine. He stressed that Kiev needs help more urgently during the winter period.

The headline is a bit misleading, as you can see in the 2nd paragraph of the submission text, it’s the current round of assistance that has halted, and they’re pushing for Congress to continue their support of Ukraine.

Unfortunately this has become a partisan issue where the speaker of the house mike Johnson just refuses to put any bill to the floor for this aid. He can gatekeep these bills as a form of blackmail to get other concessions.

But any concessions need to be totally one-sided else the maga extremists will call a vote to relieve the speaker of duty.

The maga extremists have found a way to do to the US what Orban has been doing to the EU.

Edit: the expectation is that any bill for aid to Ukraine that is put to vote will be easily passed by democrats and a group of republicans that are in favor.

How the hell did we go from McCarthyism to “hurting Russia is less important than hurting democrats” in this hellhole?

The rest of the world is also wondering.

I personally think that the efforts by troll factories have something to do with it. There is no direction that troll factories push in, it’s only “chaos” (active destabilization). And the loon squad of maga seems to have been like striking gold.

It’s pretty easy for a foreign government to buy a small handful of US Congresspeople or Senators to do their bidding.

Because McCarthyism wasn’t about being anti-Russia, it was about being anti-communist. And since Communism is generally (always?) politically left, it’s still and always has been about being reactionary conservative.

Yeah, the site is suspect. The article uses the Russian spelling “Kiev” instead of the Ukranian “Kyiv,” which is a giveaway that the site might be spreading Russian propaganda. Also:

Argentina seems to show a particularly interesting trend. The country has the region’s highest number of RT online readers, and, in 2014, it was one of the first countries in the region to allow RT to broadcast on public television. Current Argentine President Alberto Fernandez has since added Telesur, the Venezuelan television network, to his country’s basic national television service. Telesur now streams Russian propaganda and disinformation to 83% of the Argentine population. Given the reach of these outlets, it is an unlikely coincidence that 67.4% of Argentinian residents said in 2020 that they view Russia favorably.

Argentina has a lot of Russians that go there to have their baby. Apparently the baby gets citizenship if born there. So a lot of Russian young couples go there apparently. I personally know 2 couples that did this and heard of several more so… n=5(ish)

What does having Argentinian citizenship get you though, from a Russian’s perspective?

As I understand it, the parents then also apply.

Once they have argentinian citizenship they can stay out of Russia indefinitely or untill the war ends. A lot of countries have maximum stay dirations.

Also the argentinian passport allows them to travel using said passport, making travel easier in many countries at the moment.

Lastly it allows them to apply for naturalization in 3rd countries coming from Argentina and that is also better for some skilled laborers apparently. At least that’s what I understood from their explanation.

And it’s not that it has halted.

      It has concluded.

It being halted would mean that that which was meant to be allocated is stopped from being allocated before all of it was allocated.

If Zelensky and Ukrainians actions and words are an indicator, yes, they appreciate the difference between bullshit and saying what’s what.
