Probably a ship sunk during WWI or WWII.
If that’s the case, I’m surprised there is no historical record of the sinking, either from the country that owned it, or the one that sunk it.
There are still a lot of unaccounted ships from that time period. There easily could be records but until the ship is identified we don’t know which record to look at.
