  • mix of good and bad. i’ve been having some successes recently in the romantic realm, i’ve got some dates planned which has definitely provided some source of joy in my life. but overall, i haven’t been sleeping at all the last few days and recent events have been making me so increasingly hateful and angry at the evil capitalist system that it genuinely brings me down all day. the days are blurring into one and everywhere i go i feel enraged.

  • AI. even as a communist, i thought that we could just make minor progress in AI research and then overthrow capitalism and have socialist AI which will be awesome. but after seeing the internet polluted with AI-created drivel (that “internet is mostly bots” theory might be true in all honesty…the capitalists would absolutely do something like that to make the internet look more populated because a lot of industries now rely on the internet) and ben shapiro using AI generated fake images to fuel hate against palestine, i want to see AI completely gone. i despise it. if i had the choice to destroy AI and LLMs and all that shit, i would. and i say this as someone in a field that is currently seeing some fledgling AI implementation.

  • hippies are an annoying side effect of the american “new left” of the 60s. a revival of leftism, sure, but not one that was too effective or theory-based at all. the entire thing was kinda centered around the vietnam war, which was a fantastic mobilizer for the years that it was happening, but once the united states was defeated in vietnam and pulled out and the war ended, all the hippies stopped caring and settled down while they gave birth to one of the most wretched groups, the yuppies. the hippies were basically like the first iteration of the “calls themself a leftist but still buys some CIA propaganda” type you see all too often nowadays. america was bad, sure, but the soviet union was JUST as bad. lets just have world peace and everyone in harmony, man. there were of course active radical marxist-leninists, and not to mention the incredible black panther party, but i think they were kinda overshadowed in general by the “new left” hippies who were so high on CIA LSD that they didn’t really do much in the country aside from protest the war that was already on its way out thanks to the brave soldiers of the NVA.

nowadays, you can find hippies living in million-dollar homes in cities that were once cool and radical and are now just havens for the rich (think san francisco), living out all the ideals that they “rebelled against” in the 60s and posting 5G covid conspiracy theories online.

  • screamo is usually regarded as a different thing than death metal, i think you may just mean deathcore. and to each their own, from a metal listener it’s definitely about the anger but also it’s just pleasant to listen to. the heavy rhythmic elements are really enjoyable and satisfying to listen to. when it comes to the vocals, it’s kinda within the style to sound like that, the vocals are treated as an instrument like the guitars or drums are and usually you aren’t supposed to understand the lyrics anyways.

  • there are problems with nazi presence in extreme metal, and because the genre is so heavily white, cis, and male, it can end up with reactionaries being allowed to stay. but on the other end of extreme metal you can find a lot of queer people and women making great shit as well as bands that are very leftist or at least hold some of those ideals. i myself am a trans woman in the extreme metal scene and it’s really a 50/50 chance if a space is reactionary or not but overall i love the welcoming spaces i’ve found.
