I’ve been thinking that there should be a better shorthand for linking to a community on a specific instances. Something along the lines of giving each instance a shorthand up to 4 characters or something, and then do community links in the format /<shorthand>/<name>. So give sh.itjust.works sjw as a shorthand, and /sjw/privacy becomes the community name. I think that would make it easier to remember the one you mean.

Honestly the duplication and splintering of communities across instances will be a big problem if Lemmy ever gets more mainstream.

I’ve always heard the circle beard called a goatee too, but I think I heard Bill Simmons, of all people, mention that goatee is supposed to refer to a beard that hangs down from your chin, like a goat. It makes sense as an etymology. The circle beard is essentially a goatee + mustache.

Getting an account on a big general tracker like TorrentLeech is a pretty good foot in the door. They do open signups frequently. There’s also IPtorrents and their whole network, although they’re pretty looked down upon by the private trackers community. If you want to start working towards invites to more selective trackers, MAM, OPS, and RED all have an interview process. MAM is by far the easiest one to build a ratio on, although note that they do not like to be thought of as a stepping stone.

Not that I don’t think the Dems haven’t had massive problems of leadership, but most of it seems to come down to “leftists, progressives, and liberals all kind of hate each other but they all need to vote the same way to keep Republicans out of power.” Coalition parties are hard and forming a new viable party is nearly impossible. Or at least I think so, prove me wrong.

Kind of seems like reaching the point where counterfeiters could make fakes as good as the official ones was only a matter of time. The solution probably isn’t just making them more difficult to copy. You’d probably need to tie it to a digital identity provider.

I’m curious how well polished the stuff you get off of soulseek is. Private music trackers have pretty strict standards for uploads, which generally means making sure that everything is organized consistently, that all tracks are tagged correctly, and that things are encoded to high standards (filtering things like bad transcodes). If you’re having to manually check all of this stuff, it would be pretty time consuming for a large collection.

OPS is probably the one you want. RED has more selection but also a very difficult economy. OPS still has a great library and the economy is far more manageable. Of course you will still need to build up a ratio if you’re planning to download a lot

You might want to get on a general tracker like TorrentLeech that has 0day scene releases. But you won’t find as good retention on older releases. It works as a nice supplement to a more selective tracker.
