What even crazier is that there was only a very brief point in time where PC gaming was cheaper than consoles. Early beefy PC’s were expensive, mid 2000’s beefy PC’s were priced higher and didn’t have game sales to offset the cost. It wasn’t until about 2009-2015 where building a PC that was on par or better than consoles while costing about the same, with the benefit of Steam sales.

That quickly changed by 2018 with the 2000 series release, which were the start of priced out PC’s again.

The only thing I can understand for Sony not porting their games earlier is that Steam sales in recent years have declined. I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony was taking Nintendo pricing philosophy as a reason to keep them from being devaluated over time and sales metrics. Otherwise… Sony, your consoles were subsidized to be cheaper than PC’s. You were only losing game sales. Moreover, they were losing double dipping money.
