My advice is start meditating now if you don’t. Not for productivity but for enlightenment and maybe even jhanas. If you’re actually interested I could dig up some traditions/practices. Then when you get access to the psychedelics: Take them, hit the cushion, focus your mind on your intention, then let go.

If you’ve reached or even approached ego death while meditating sober, then you’ll be more skilled at navigating it while high. I still get panic attacks but its now quite easy to tell myself “this is only my ego dying” and “no my mind is not breaking, my ego is just throwing anxiety at me because my thoughts are dissolving and it likes to be in control.” This skill is useful for dealing with my ego when sober, as well - whether I’m fearful, jealous, proud, embarrassed, depressed, anxious, etc.

Some of the latest research indicates that our neural networks develop self-reinforcing patterns associated with various conditions, and that psychedelics can disrupt these structures when they scramble our signals. So I think you’re approaching this from a good direction.
