Shoppers in Texas no longer have to pay a sales tax on menstrual products, making the state one of the few in the nation to eliminate the so-called “tampon tax.”
A new law that went into effect Friday eliminates the sales tax on feminine hygiene products including items like tampons, menstrual pads and menstrual cups.
In addition to menstrual products, the law, S.B. 379, also eliminates the sales tax on family care items including diapers, baby bottles, baby wipes, maternity clothing and breast milk pump products.
I figured it couldn’t hurt to celebrate the common sense, bi-partisan legislation that passes here. I think this is pretty awesome.

I have to say that I did not expect this from Texas, but it’s certainly good news.
What’s with Texas having a bunch of progressive rulings recently? Not mad at it, just surprised.
A law is not a ruling.
I’m also curious what other progressive laws you think have been passed? Or even court rulings handed down?
Trying to prove they’re not a bunch of oppressive, regressive theocrats. So they’ll tell you you can’t read certain books, be taught history or social skills or kindness in schools, can’t learn about safe sex, make it hard to get birth control, make it impossible to get an abortion, prosecute you and your doctor and your friends if you get an abortion, restrict your ability to vote, gerrymand things so even if you do vote it doesn’t count, etc, etc, etc. But they can point to this one thing - hey, there’s no tampon tax - and loudly proclaim what a liberal paradise they are. /s, but not really …
