    The two women told detective Ben McBride of the Norfolk, Nebraska Police Division that they’d discussed the matter on Facebook Messenger, which prompted the state to issue Meta with a search warrant for their chat history and data including log-in timestamps and photos.

    What I don’t understand is why they told the police that they talked about it? That seems like they wanted to be caught.

      People don’t understand the anything you say can and will be used against you part of their Miranda rights. It holds true even if you aren’t arrested. Don’t cooperate with the police.
