Nah, had to go back to China to see my family last month because of Lunar New Year but then realised lemmy.world is accessible without using any GFW bypassing methods while ml is blocked

The Great Firewall was a lot easier to get around than I expected. None of the typical VPN providers, even using obfuscated connections, worked at all, but setting up an OpenVPN server on my VPS worked brilliantly.

    Weird.

I guess fewer chinese people bother to use .world so it flies under the radar, maybe the sinophobia drives them away.

Chinese government fears radical communists because some of them might start thinking that modern China is not communist enough and cause trouble.

While Hu Jintao’s liberalism created conditions resulting in more radical communists, I seriously doubt Xi Jinping’s guys are afraid of Shengwulian-style ultraleftists coming back.
